Day 6: Hammer Imperial Stout

It's Hammer Time!
The Story:
Inspired by brewers way back in the 1800's to win over the Russian Czar, Russian Imperial Stouts were brewed with high levels of alcohol to survive the freezing trip across the Baltic Sea.  As a style, they typically feature low to mild levels of carbonation and are packed with roasted flavours.  Our Phillips Brew-lag has been bringing down the Hammer since 2009.  Craft beer comrades are recommended to enjoy the Hammer at cellar temp (10C) to maximize roasted malt goodness, so pull it from your beer Siberia 20 minutes or so before diving in.

Tasting Notes:
Pours a deep earthy brown colour with a tan head. Aromas of roasted barley with slight coffee undertones.  A big, rich roasted flavour profile accented with hints of chocolate and finishing dry.

Availability:
The Hammer Imperial Stout is available seasonally in the 650mL bottle--it's actually available right now from private craft focused liquor stores.

  2. This beer is great! Our local beer market has a very low saturation of pure Stouts, and The Hammer Imperial Stout hits the nail on the head!

Again, this beer should be made more widely available.

  3. One of my favorites from Phillips. I fell asleep while drinking this. But, that's a good thing because when I awoke I was able to enjoy the Hammër in all it's stoutly glory as a stout should be. Warm.
